Friday Fashion History 101

Every Friday we are going to have a little fashion history lesson.  If we want to be lovers of all things fashion we need to know where it started.  Today we will talk about Aquascutum.  

The firm of Aquasacutum (from the Latin, literally  'water-shield) was established in 1851 as a tailor's shop in London, England.  

 Aquascutum coats were among the first showerproof coats to be made from wool and were worn by British soldiers in the trenches during World War I.  

These ankle-length trench coats has a military appearance, emphasized  with Epaulets and brass rings on the belt, a style that has remained popular.  Between the wars, while supplying coats for the military the company also sold fashionable showerproof coats for men and women who required suitable attire for their increasingly active outdoor lives.

In 2005 designer Micheal Herz and Graeme Fidler launched the first catwalk collection.

While the concept remained the same, the styles have evolved with time.
