Tuesday's Tip

While trying to clean and organize my makeup, I came to the realization that I am a makeup hoarder. Thanks to my loving mother who always gives me her sample eye shadows, blushes and lipsticks from her purchases of Elizabeth Arden face products, I can now open my own little shop lol. As I started to sort my plethora of products, I started to wonder when do these go bad? So I did a little research…

We all know to watch for expiration dates on our makeup as germs and bacteria can build up. But what about the products that don’t have an expiration date? According to makeup artist Bobbi Brown, below is the timeframe for how long your makeup should be kept before discarding:

Mascara- between 3-6 months
Blushes-between 6 months and a year
Eye shadows, pencils, creams and concealer-up to 1 year
Foundation cream, lipstick, moisturizer-between 1 year- 1 ½ years.

Some other Fun Tips

Keep your Brushes clean by washing them every 3 months with gentle baby shampoo or your facial cleanser. When you are finished, wipe them down with a washcloth to keep their shape and let them dry.

Toothbrush holders are also good brush holders.

Use Ziploc bags to store your makeup; you can see exactly what you need and can throw out the bag when it gets dirty.

  1. What a great tip! It looks as though every thing with the exception of my new mascara need to go in the trash! LOL
