After years of not understanding some of the outrageous designs at New York Fashion Week, I am finally starting to appreciate it for all it is worth. My "aha" moment occurred when watching a Victoria's Secret fashion show a few years ago. Sure, the wings and accessories were over the top and something not to be duplicated, but dang..they make the show much more fun! I transferred this attitude to the current looks at Fashion Week. The slicked hair, intense makeup, and bright colors are all works of art in their own right. There have been many times where I have thought..."How could anyone pull that off?" only to see a celeb take a look right off the runway. With a few hair and makeup tweaks they make the look workable for the everyday.
Take away the dark makeup and slicked hair, and Prabal Gurung's looks are not all too shocking. For those of us (all of us?) lacking the funds to access these styles, we too can make the look workable. Maybe we could emulate the hemline or be inspired by the neo-electric purple. I guarantee you will not like all the runway looks, but you have to admire the flair for dramatics, silhouettes, and impeccable lines.
With Love From the West Coast,
XOXO
